montemagno.com is my personal blog. It's a static website with no analytics, no advertising, no user accounts, no comments, and no sign-up forms. The site doesn't set any cookies of its own and never asks you for personal information. This page explains what does happen when you visit. It's a plain-language summary, not legal advice.
Hosting
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit, GitHub logs your IP address for security purposes, whether or not you're signed in to GitHub. See the GitHub General Privacy Statement for details.
Fonts
Pages load their fonts from Adobe Fonts (use.typekit.net and p.typekit.net). Adobe counts page views for font licensing, and says it doesn't use cookies to serve web fonts or store the IP addresses it receives. See Adobe Fonts privacy.
Search
Search is powered by Pagefind and runs entirely in your browser. It downloads index files from this site and matches your query locally, so your search terms aren't sent to a search service.
Light and dark theme
If you use the theme toggle, your choice (light or dark) is saved in your browser's local storage under the key theme so the site remembers it. It isn't a cookie, it's never sent to a server, and you can remove it by clearing your browser's data for this site.
Embedded content
Some pages embed content from other services. When one of those pages loads, your browser connects to that service, which can receive your IP address and browser details and may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy:
- YouTube videos are embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). See the Google Privacy Policy.
- Vimeo videos in a couple of older posts load with Vimeo's "do not track" option. See the Vimeo Privacy Policy.
- Podcast players from Fireside appear on the Podcasts page and in some posts. See the Fireside Privacy Policy. A few older posts embed SoundCloud, Simplecast, or Microsoft Channel 9 players.
- Code samples in many posts are embedded from GitHub Gists (gist.github.com), covered by the GitHub privacy statement above.
- Posts from X (Twitter) embedded in some older posts load X's widget script. See the X Privacy Policy.
- Images on the My Apps page load from GitHub, and images in some older posts (and their thumbnails in post lists) load from other sites, such as Unsplash.
- Buy Me a Coffee: the button on the About page loads its logo from buymeacoffee.com and its font from Google Fonts.
Links, affiliate links, and support
Posts link to plenty of other websites, each with its own privacy practices. When you follow a link, your browser may tell the other site which page you came from.
Some posts contain affiliate or referral links, such as Amazon Associates links. If you buy something through one, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, and the retailer may use its own cookies to track the referral.
If you choose to support my work through Buy Me a Coffee or the Merge Conflict Patreon, that happens on their sites, under their privacy policies.
Changes
If anything here changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
